Da Lat weather in November: cool nights, drier days, wild sunflowers and pink grass

Ask people in Vietnam when to visit the highlands and many will say November. The reason is simple: Da Lat weather in November is when the long rainy season finally lets go. Rain drops by more than half compared with October, the sun comes out for longer, nights turn properly chilly, and two of the year’s most photographed sights, wild sunflowers and pink grass, appear one after the other. Da Lat weather in November: the hinge between wet and dry seasons#

Da Lat (Đà Lạt), about 1,500 m up on the Langbiang Plateau, has two clear seasons: a rainy season from roughly May to October and a dry season from late in the year to around April. November sits right on the seam. You can still get a few showers, especially in the first half of the month, but dry days now outnumber wet ones. Locals describe it as the city “going into winter”: crisp mornings, bright dry middays and evenings that call for a real jacket.

Da Lat weather in November by the numbers#

The table below comes from the Da Lat climate table on Wikipedia, which draws on the Da Lat gazetteer. These are long-term averages for a station at around 1,500 m, not a forecast for 2026. We put November between October and December so you can see how quickly the city dries out.

What Da Lat weather in November means for your trip

First, this is the biggest drop in rain all year: from about 245 mm to about 94 mm, less than 40% of October’s total, with the number of rainy days nearly halved. If rain is your main worry, Da Lat weather in November is a clear step up.

Second, daytime highs barely move (21.7°C against 22.8°C), but the record low falls sharply, from 8.1°C to 4.4°C. Middays stay mild while clear nights can be surprisingly cold. November is the first month of the year when a warm jacket beats a light windbreaker.

Third, you get almost 30 more hours of sunshine than in October. That means blue skies for flower photos, but also dry skin and lips, and midday sun on open hills that is strong enough to burn.

Da Lat weather in November over the last 10 years#

Averages can make every November look dry. To check, we downloaded November data for 2016 to 2025 from Open-Meteo on September 27, 2026. This is gridded reanalysis data, which usually shows more rain than a ground station, so use it to compare years rather than to replace the table above.

Temperatures are remarkably steady: highs of 21-23°C and lows of 14-16°C almost every year. Rain is another story. November 2023 saw about 59 mm; November 2025 saw about 310 mm, more than five times as much, and rainy days ranged from 9 to 25.

2025 is the cautionary tale. According to VnExpress International (December 25, 2025), south-central Vietnam and the Central Highlands were hit by severe flooding from November 15 to 22, 2025, with one-week rainfall of 400-900 mm in many places and river levels in Dak Lak and Lam Dong topping the historic peaks of 1993 and 2009. So when you read about Da Lat weather in November, remember that the average is drying, but a big late-season storm is still possible.

Da Lat weather in November, week by week#

There is no official week-by-week data, so this section is our reading of the October-to-December trend plus press reports. Treat it as a guide for choosing dates, not a forecast.

Early November: the rainy season’s last word

The first ten days often still bring afternoon showers, damp hillsides and full waterfalls. In exchange, the wild sunflowers (dã quỳ, a tall yellow Tithonia shrub) are filling in. Dan Tri reported on November 7, 2024 that hillsides in Hiep An, in the former Duc Trong district more than 10 km from central Da Lat, were already golden. Da Lat weather in November is still a little unpredictable at this stage, so pack a light rain shell.

Mid-November: dry sunshine, cold mornings

By the middle of the month, dry spells get longer and the skies turn clear blue more often. This is the sweet spot: wild sunflowers are still out, pink grass is starting to color, and nights are cold enough to feel like a highland escape. Just remember that the 2025 floods hit in exactly this window, so check the forecast close to departure.

Late November: dry season and peak pink grass

By the end of the month, Da Lat weather in November usually feels like the dry season proper: little rain, colder nights, more wind. VnExpress (November 26, 2023) says the pink grass season runs from early November to the end of December and looks best around late November. Some wild sunflower patches begin to fade. If you want both blooms, aim for the second or third week.

Da Lat weather in November 2026: the seasonal outlook#

As of September 27, 2026, Vietnam’s National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting had not yet issued its monthly climate bulletin for November 2026; these usually come out late in the preceding month. So we rely on published regional outlooks, with their dates.

On September 15, 2026, VietnamPlus quoted the center’s director, Mai Van Khiem: El Niño is almost certain to stay strong to very strong from October to December 2026, with about a 98% chance of reaching “very strong.” Rainfall is expected to fall short by 20-40% across much of the country, most clearly on the south-central coast, in the Central Highlands and in the south, and the rainy season may end early. The article also cites average temperatures running 1-2.5°C above normal nationwide, with weaker cold-air surges than usual.

Earlier, VietNamNet Global (August 20, 2026) reported that moderate to heavy rain could last through October and then decline quickly from November, and that the southern rainy season could end 10-20 days early.

What that means for travelers

Da Lat weather in November 2026 may well be drier and slightly warmer than average: more sunny days, perhaps less biting nights. What blooms in November: wild sunflowers, pink grass and what is not out yet#

Wild sunflowers: the color of Da Lat weather in November

Tuoi Tre News (November 8, 2024) puts the season from late October to late November, ending when the rains stop. It names Voi Mountain in the Hiep An and Hiep Thanh area and the Lien Khuong-Prenn Expressway as hot spots, with the best light before 10am or after 3pm. VnExpress (August 16, 2022) adds the old Cam Ly airfield and the Trai Mat-Cau Dat road. VietNamNet Global (February 1, 2020) notes the flowers look best early in the morning, when mist still clings to the petals.

Pink grass: from early November, best late in the month

Pink grass (cỏ hồng, a pink muhly-type grass) is the second reason people wait for Da Lat weather in November. Viet Nam News (December 3, 2021) says it turns pink in early November and holds its color for more than a month, on hills near Tuyen Lam Lake, Golden Stream and Thai Phien flower village. VnExpress (November 26, 2023) highlights Golden Valley, about 12 km from the center, and Masara Hill near Ta Nang, about 80 km away, with the best light at 6-8am and from 4pm to sunset.

Kenh14 (December 3, 2023) warns the true peak lasts only 2-3 weeks between mid-November and December. Dew makes the slopes slippery at dawn, so wear shoes with grip. And please stay on existing paths: several hills have been trampled bare by photo sessions in past seasons.

Cherry blossoms: not yet

Visitors often ask about Da Lat’s pink “mai anh đào” (a Himalayan cherry). Not in November. According to VnExpress (January 6, 2026), the trees usually bloom from mid-January; the 2025-2026 season came 10-15 days early, starting in late December 2025 on the Cau Dat tea hills. We found no reliable report of a November bloom, so do not plan a trip around it.

Last persimmons and the coffee harvest

VnExpress (August 16, 2022) says the persimmon season runs to the end of November, into early December, so November is your last chance to see heavy orchards and buy freshly air-dried fruit. Cloud hunting in Da Lat weather in November#

Cloud hunting (săn mây) changes character in November. Humidity is still around 85.4%, nights are colder and skies clearer, so mornings after a still night often bring fog pooling in the valleys. VnExpress (September 3, 2022) says thick cloud seas require higher hills outside the city, such as Cau Dat or Da Phu, and a 4-5am start.

Our take: odds are fair, perhaps with thinner cloud than in October, but the tracks up the hills are drier and the sky after the fog burns off is usually crisp blue. Mountain passes and getting there in November 2026#

Da Lat weather in November brings less rain, but the hillsides have soaked up water all season, and last year’s events are worth remembering. On the night of November 19, 2025, part of Mimosa Pass collapsed while Prenn, D’Ran and Khanh Le passes were temporarily closed by landslides (Tuoi Tre, November 20, 2025). Mimosa reopened on a temporary road at 6pm on November 30, 2025 (Tuoi Tre), and heavy rain triggered new landslides on Prenn and Mimosa in early December (VnExpress International, December 4, 2025).

How Da Lat in November compares with home#

• Singapore and Malaysia: Singapore averages 27.2°C in November with about 252 mm of rain over roughly 19 days; Kuala Lumpur sees highs of 32-35°C and lows of 23-25°C year-round. Da Lat will feel 10°C cooler by day and genuinely cold at dawn. Bring a proper jacket, not just a hoodie.
• Korea: Seoul averages about 7.5°C in November. Da Lat will feel like a mild early autumn; a light jacket and layers are enough, though hill-top sunrises are still chilly.
• Russia: Moscow averages about −0.5°C in November (1991-2020). Da Lat will feel like late spring. A fleece covers the mornings; bring sunscreen, because the highland sun is strong.

For Malaysian and Singaporean families, note that Deepavali falls on Sunday, November 8, 2026, with Monday, November 9 widely observed as a holiday in lieu, and Singapore’s school year-end holidays start on November 21, 2026 according to the Ministry of Education calendar. Both can push up regional demand for flights and rooms.

What to pack for Da Lat in November#

Planning photos in an áo dài or a dress on the flower hills? Wear a thin thermal layer underneath and keep a jacket to throw on between shots. Red dirt on the pink grass hills stains white sneakers quickly, so pack a shoe bag or spare sandals.

Crowds, prices and the new November 24 holiday#

Beyond Da Lat weather in November, crowds shape your trip. November used to have no national holiday in Vietnam, which kept it quiet. 2026 brings a change. According to Bao Chinh Phu, the government newspaper (April 24, 2026), the National Assembly designated November 24 as Vietnam Culture Day, a paid day off for workers, effective July 1, 2026. This year is the first time it applies.

November 24, 2026 is a Tuesday. VnExpress reported on September 20, 2026 that the Ministry of Home Affairs had submitted an extra option: a single day off on November 24 with no working-day swap, instead of its original plan for a four-day break from November 21 to 24. As of September 27, the Prime Minister had not decided. A four-day break would likely fill Da Lat that weekend; a single day would matter much less.

Events and room prices

We found no officially announced festivals or tourism events in Da Lat for November 2026 as of this writing. The next big date is the 11th Da Lat Flower Festival, scheduled for December 19-31, 2026 (Thanh Nien, June 16, 2026), so November remains a buffer before the year-end peak.

Day 1: town and lake

• Morning: arrive, breakfast at Da Lat Market, stroll around Xuan Huong Lake while the mist lingers.

Day 2: clouds and flowers to the east

• 4:30-6:30am: cloud hunting on Cau Dat or Da Phu hill.
• 7-10am: the Trai Mat-Cau Dat road for wild sunflowers, the tea hills and a coffee farm stop.
• Midday: rest in town and skip the strongest sun.
• 4-5:30pm: late in the month, pink grass around Golden Valley for sunset.

Day 3: pine forests to the south

• Morning: ride the Da Lat cable car to Truc Lam Monastery and Tuyen Lam Lake.
• Before lunch: for thrills, the alpine coaster at Datanla Waterfall is close by.
• Afternoon: buy dried persimmons and candied fruit, then leave and clear the passes before dark.

Is November the best time to visit Da Lat?#

“Best time to visit” depends on what you want, but November is one of the strongest candidates. Compared with October, Da Lat weather in November is drier, sunnier, colder at night and full of flowers. Compared with December, it is quieter, before the Flower Festival and Christmas crowds, and easier on the budget. Here is our verdict.
