Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat in 2026: buses, flights, prices and booking tips

Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat at a glance#

There are five realistic ways to get from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat: a standard sleeper bus, a private cabin bus, a limousine van, a flight to Lien Khuong Airport plus a transfer, or a private car. According to Tuoi Tre News, Da Lat is about 300 km from the city, and sleeper buses or limousines cost VND250,000-350,000 for a 6-8 hour ride (May 2025). VnExpress gave a range of VND200,000-450,000 and 5-6 hours in March 2026.

Which option suits you?#

A quick word on names first. Locals still call the city Saigon, and you will see “Dalat” written as one word on many bus tickets and signs. Booking apps accept both, so searching “Saigon to Dalat” or “Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat” returns the same buses. On tickets, the destination often appears as Đà Lạt or Lâm Đồng, the province.

• Backpackers and budget travelers: a standard sleeper bus at night. It is the cheapest option and saves a hotel night, as long as you can sleep in a short berth.
• Couples and light sleepers: a cabin bus, booked as two single cabins. You get a curtain, a charging port and far less noise than on an open sleeper.
• Families with small children: a daytime limousine van or a private car, so you can stop when you need to and cross the mountain passes in daylight.
• Short trips of two or three days: fly. Losing a whole day on the road from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat hurts more when your stay is short.
• Travelers who want to see the road: a morning bus or car. The climb from Bao Loc to Prenn Pass passes tea and coffee country that you miss entirely on a night bus.

Whatever you choose, keep one buffer day at the end of your trip in the rainy season. Landslides on the passes have forced detours several times in 2025 and 2026, and a missed connection is easier to absorb with slack in your plan.

By sleeper bus: what the ride is really like#

Standard sleeper buses

The sleeper bus is how most locals travel from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat. VnExpress International describes the standard version as 44, 34 or 32 berths in three rows on two levels, built for passengers under about 180 cm, with a pillow, a blanket and bottled water (VnExpress International). Most have no toilet; the driver stops at rest areas.

Foreign travelers tend to love the price and dislike the legroom. Kenh14 reported an Australian traveler who paid about VND500,000 (roughly $23) for a first-class seat on a 7-hour Ho Chi Minh City - Da Lat ride and called it better than flying, with stops about every three hours (Kenh14, May 2025).

Private cabin buses and the “double cabin” question

Cabin buses, often sold as “VIP 22 rooms,” give each passenger a curtained pod. Dan Tri described cabins with air conditioning, a screen, charging ports, a reading light and snacks; you take your shoes off before boarding (Dan Tri, June 19, 2026).

Be careful with “double cabins” sold to couples. VnExpress reported on September 9, 2026 that Vietnam’s technical standard QCVN 09:2024/BGTVT allows one person per berth, each with its own seat belt, and has no category for double berths. A double cabin cost about VND700,000 for two, only about VND100,000 less than two single berths (VnExpress). Book two separate spaces.

Operators named by major media

Phuong Trang (FUTA Bus Lines) runs Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat and Nha Trang to Da Lat services (VnExpress, March 2026) and, according to Tuoi Tre in October 2024, manages Da Lat’s inter-provincial bus station (Tuoi Tre). Official channels: futabus.vn (website and app) and hotline 1900 6067. Holiday surcharges are real: the company raised fares 40% on 17 fixed routes from April 29 to May 3, 2026 (Tuoi Tre).

Thanh Buoi resumed Ho Chi Minh City - Da Lat trips in February 2025 as a contract carrier, not a registered fixed route, after a suspension that followed a fatal crash in 2023 (VnExpress). Its official site, thanhbuoi.com.vn, listed a 34-berth sleeper at VND325,000 and a 22-cabin bus at VND500,000 when we checked on September 25, 2026, departing from 266-268 Le Hong Phong Street in Cho Quan Ward.

Where buses leave from in Ho Chi Minh City

Coaches for Da Lat leave from Mien Dong (Eastern) bus station, old and new, and Mien Tay (Western) bus station; Tuoi Tre points travelers to the stations’ own websites, benxemiendong.com.vn and bxmt.com.vn, to check fixed routes and operators (Tuoi Tre). Many companies also run their own city offices with free shuttles to the departure point. Note that since July 1, 2025, the former Binh Duong Province has been part of Ho Chi Minh City, so pickups there appear under “Ho Chi Minh City” in booking apps.

Flying from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat#

Lien Khuong Airport reopened on August 19, 2026 after runway work, with 36-40 flights a day planned and domestic links to Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Vinh, Hai Phong and Can Tho, plus Kuala Lumpur four times a week and Singapore from December 2026 (VietNamNet). Vietjet and Vietnam Airlines both fly the Ho Chi Minh City route (VnExpress International).

Right after reopening, Kenh14 found Vietjet one-way fares between Da Lat and Ho Chi Minh City of VND1.01-1.99 million (Kenh14, August 19, 2026). The airport is about 30 km from central Da Lat and the road in uses the Lien Khuong - Prenn Expressway, then Prenn Pass. We have no sourced 2026 price for airport shuttles or taxis, so ask your hotel for a pickup quote.

Private car or self-drive#

A private car suits families or groups who want to stop for photos. The usual route, per VnExpress, is the Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway to Dau Giay, then National Route 20 through Bao Loc Pass and up Prenn Pass (VnExpress, March 2026). There is still no continuous expressway from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat in 2026.

For shorter hires, CafeF quoted VND1.5-2.4 million for a 4-7 seat car on 140-200 km trips in November 2025 (CafeF); expect more for the 300 km run from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat and get the price, tolls and driver’s meals agreed in writing. Booking a bus as a foreigner#

Book through an operator’s own website or app, its hotline, or the ticket counter at the bus station. You will usually give a name, phone number and email, and receive an e-ticket with a booking code, pickup time and seat or berth number. A local SIM helps, because drivers and shuttle staff often call to confirm pickups. Carry your passport as ID.

Scams target the peak season. In February 2026, Lam Dong police broke up a group that ran fake bus-company pages on Facebook, took deposits and then blocked buyers, taking more than VND200 million from hundreds of people nationwide. Police advise never transferring money to personal accounts or unverified pages (Lam Dong Provincial Police).

• Screenshot your e-ticket; mobile signal drops on the passes.
• Ask whether the bus drops you at the station or an office, and whether a shuttle continues to your hotel.
• Expect higher fares and early sell-outs around Tet, April 30 - May 1, September 2 and late-December festival dates.

Nha Trang to Da Lat#

The shortest road is Khanh Le Pass on National Route 27C. VnExpress puts the trip at about 145 km, with Phuong Trang, Cuc Tung Limousine, Lien Hung and An Phu charging VND250,000-300,000 (VnExpress, March 2026). The 33 km pass saves nearly 50 km compared with going via Cam Ranh and Song Pha Pass (VnExpress International).

Safety comes first on this road. A landslide buried a passenger bus on Khanh Le on November 16, 2025, killing six people. As of September 13, 2026, nine sites were still being reinforced until about October 5, and authorities advised avoiding the pass between 6 p.m. and 5 a.m. (VnExpress). Take a morning bus. From Cam Ranh Airport, Tuoi Tre News lists coaches at VND150,000-250,000 taking 3-4 hours for about 160 km.

Hoi An to Da Lat#

There is no short road between Hoi An and Da Lat, so most travelers fly. Hoi An’s nearest airport is Da Nang, and both Vietjet (three return flights a week, per Viet Nam News) and Vietnam Airlines (VnExpress International) serve Da Nang - Da Lat since the August 2026 reopening. Kenh14 found Vietjet fares on that route at VND1.12-1.99 million in August 2026.

With only a few flights a week, fix your Da Lat dates around the flight. If the dates do not fit, connect through Ho Chi Minh City, which has daily flights to Lien Khuong and dozens of buses up the mountain. We did not find a reliable source for overland buses from Hoi An, so we do not quote a time or fare for that option.

Arriving in Da Lat#

Fixed-route buses end at the Da Lat Inter-provincial Bus Station (Bến xe liên tỉnh Đà Lạt), where To Hien Thanh Street meets 3 Thang 4 Street on the road in from Prenn Pass (Lam Dong provincial portal). Take a taxi or ride-hailing car to your hotel from there.

Tuoi Tre reported in May 2025 that this is the only officially licensed station and has been overloaded for years, so some companies pick up and drop off illegally in the city center (Tuoi Tre). Night bus or day bus, luggage and motion sickness#

A night bus from Ho Chi Minh City to Da Lat arrives early; a Saigoneer writer took an overnight bus from Saigon and reached a tea hill by 6:30 a.m. to watch the clouds. In September and October, the rainy-season peak, we prefer daytime buses so you cross the passes in daylight. Check the forecast in our Da Lat weather in October guide.

• Seat belts are required on sleepers too. On July 26, 2026, traffic police on the Ho Chi Minh City - Long Thanh - Dau Giay Expressway fined passengers VND375,000 each and the driver VND900,000 (Thanh Nien).
• Motion sickness: Bao Loc and Prenn passes are winding. Pick a lower berth near the front and eat lightly.
• Luggage: big bags go underneath; keep a jacket, power bank and passport with you. Cabin buses need a bag for your shoes.
• Arriving at dawn: ask your hotel about luggage storage or early check-in before you book a night bus.
