Cheap hotels in Da Lat city center: which streets, what you pay, what to check

Ask anyone in Da Lat where a first-time visitor should sleep and the answer usually starts at the market. From the streets around Da Lat Market (Chợ Đà Lạt) you can walk to the night market, stroll to Xuan Huong Lake and grab a ride to almost anywhere else. But cheap hotels in Da Lat city center range from genuinely good value to a cold, noisy night with extra fees, depending on the street you pick and the dates you travel.

We do not publish a “top 10 hotels” list, because we have not stayed everywhere, and we only name a property when a major news outlet has already reported on it.

What “cheap hotels in Da Lat city center” really means#

Da Lat’s center is compact. Locals mean the area around the market, the Hoa Binh quarter above it and the shore of Xuan Huong Lake. Since July 1, 2025, all of this lies in Xuan Huong - Da Lat Ward (phường Xuân Hương - Đà Lạt), so booking pages now show the new ward name instead of the old numbered wards such as Ward 1 or Ward 3.

The area is packed with places to stay. According to the Lam Dong provincial police (August 13, 2025, in Vietnamese), Xuan Huong - Da Lat Ward alone has more than 1,400 accommodation businesses, from hotels to guesthouses and rented rooms. Back in 2018, Saigoneer reported that some streets under a kilometer long held more than 100 of them. You will not run out of options; what you need is a way to filter them.

In this guide, “cheap” means guesthouses (nhà nghỉ), unrated hotels and one- or two-star hotels that charge a few hundred thousand dong a night on weekdays. Three-star-plus hotels by the lake sometimes discount deeply, but that is a different market and we only mention it for comparison.

Streets with cheap hotels in Da Lat city center#

We list only streets that Vietnamese newspapers named when reporting on rooms in the center. In January 2025, Saigon Giai Phong surveyed hotels along Nguyen Chi Thanh (Nguyễn Chí Thanh), Nam Ky Khoi Nghia (Nam Kỳ Khởi Nghĩa), Le Dai Hanh (Lê Đại Hành) and Pham Ngu Lao (Phạm Ngũ Lão) (SGGP, in Vietnamese). Over Tet 2026, Thanh Nien described visitors driving up and down Nguyen Chi Thanh, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia and Bui Thi Xuan (Bùi Thị Xuân) and seeing nothing but “no vacancy” signs (Thanh Nien, February 20, 2026, in Vietnamese).

The distances below are our own walking measurements on OpenStreetMap, taken on September 25, 2026, from the nearest and farthest end of each street to the market entrance and to the closest point of the lake shore, then rounded. Da Lat is hilly and full of steps, so real walking times can be longer than the map suggests.

Our rule of thumb: if walking to the night market and street food matters most, look at the market end of Nguyen Chi Thanh, Nam Ky Khoi Nghia, Le Dai Hanh or Phan Boi Chau. Why prices vary so much on the same street

On the same slope, a street-facing room usually costs more than one facing the back; a top-floor room costs more if there is an elevator and less if you have to climb. Some cheap hotels in Da Lat city center are cheap precisely because they sit in a steep alley, have no car parking or offer rooms without windows. None of this tends to appear in the first line of a listing, so you have to ask.

What cheap hotels in Da Lat city center cost, season by season#

There is no official citywide price list, so we pieced together figures from news reports, each with the date it was collected. Use the table as a reference to spot a price that looks off, not as a quote.

Two takeaways. First, the budget segment is where prices jump hardest over holidays: a VND200,000 room can become VND600,000, three times as much. Second, four- and five-star hotels largely hold their listed rates, so over Tet the gap between a basic room and a good one narrows a lot. Dan Tri quoted a hotel owner on Nguyen Cong Tru Street saying his Tet rates were three times his usual ones (Dan Tri, February 21, 2026, in Vietnamese).

For context, Agoda’s data put Da Lat fourth among Asia’s cheapest summer destinations in 2025, with that VND1.18 million average covering every kind of property (Viet Nam News, July 7, 2025). Budget rooms near the market sit well below that average on ordinary weekdays.

Low season can be cheaper than you think

It works the other way too. While Lien Khuong Airport was closed for runway repairs in 2026, SGGP reported many properties cutting rates by 5-45%, with perks such as no weekend surcharge and free early check-in or late check-out when rooms allowed (SGGP, April 8, 2026, in Vietnamese). If your dates are flexible, promotions like these are the best time to hunt for cheap hotels in Da Lat city center.

Star ratings at cheap hotels in Da Lat city center, and the stars on booking apps#

Many travelers assume every hotel has an official star rating. It does not work that way in Vietnam. Under Article 50 of the 2017 Law on Tourism (text in Vietnamese), rating is voluntary. Hotels are graded from one to five stars against a national standard; provincial tourism authorities assess one to three stars and the national tourism authority assesses four and five. A rating is valid for five years, and the rating plaque must hang by the main entrance.

The same law treats the “tourist guesthouse” (nhà nghỉ du lịch) as a separate type of accommodation. Among cheap hotels in Da Lat city center, it is common to find guesthouses or hotels that have never applied for a rating. That does not make them bad; it just means there is no standard to lean on, so you need to check more yourself.

What your money buys: heating, hot water, stairs and parking#

At a few hundred thousand dong a night, facilities vary enormously between cheap hotels in Da Lat city center. There is no survey to quote here, so this section is a list of questions to ask, ranked by how much they affect your sleep in a highland town.

Blankets and a heater

According to the climate table on Wikipedia, Da Lat’s average January low is about 11.7°C (53°F). Budget rooms rarely have reverse-cycle air conditioning, so ask whether there is a heavy duvet and a heater, and whether the heater costs extra. In the rainy season, roughly May to October, ground-floor rooms can feel damp; asking about mustiness is not overkill.

Hot water

Ask whether each room has its own water heater or the building shares one large tank. With a shared tank, the hot water can run out during the evening rush. If you are traveling in a group, this matters more than the view.

Elevator or stairs

Many small hotels on the slopes are four to six floors high with no elevator. If you have a big suitcase or travel with older relatives or small children, ask which floor the room is on and whether there is a lift before you book.

Motorbike and car parking

Motorbikes can usually be parked in the lobby overnight. Cars are another story: plenty of small hotels near the market have no parking of their own. If you are driving, ask exactly where the car will go, how far away it is and whether there is a fee. We cover central parking in more detail below.

How to avoid surprise surcharges#

Surcharges are real at cheap hotels in Da Lat city center. The fact that hotels advertised “no weekend surcharge” as a perk during the April 2026 promotion (SGGP) tells you weekend surcharges are standard practice at many places. A surcharge is not wrong in itself; the problem is when you only learn about it at the front desk.

Legally, the 2017 Law on Tourism requires accommodation providers to post their prices and house rules publicly. Under Decree 87/2024/ND-CP, an individual who charges more than the posted price can be fined VND5-10 million and must refund the difference (LuatVietnam, November 4, 2024, in Vietnamese). Over Tet 2026, Lam Dong’s tourism department again reminded businesses to post their prices (Dan Tri).

Charges to ask about in writing

• Whether the rate includes tax and service charge, and how weekend and holiday rates differ from weekdays.
• Extra-person, child and extra-bed charges.
• Early check-in and late check-out fees (common if you arrive on an overnight bus at 4 or 5 a.m.).
• Fees for a heater, car parking or storing luggage after check-out.
• The cancellation and date-change policy if a mountain pass is closed by a landslide or your flight is canceled.

When to book: the peak dates for late 2026#

Timing moves the price more than location. The same room at one of the cheap hotels in Da Lat city center can cost a third as much if you avoid a handful of peak days. These are the dates to know.

• 11th Da Lat Flower Festival: the opening is planned for the evening of December 19, 2026, with the closing and New Year’s Eve show on December 31, 2026 (Thanh Nien, June 16, 2026, in Vietnamese). It is the busiest stretch of the year’s end: book as soon as your dates are fixed and keep proof of the cancellation policy.
• Tet (Lunar New Year): over Tet 2026, three- to five-star hotels were 85-95% full and other types of accommodation 65-75% (Dan Tri, February 21, 2026). Budget rooms saw the steepest increases.
• April 30 and September 2 holidays: over the September 2, 2026 holiday, average occupancy was about 80% (Lam Dong Newspaper, August 28, 2026, in Vietnamese). Just before that break, small hotels with fewer than 20 rooms still had vacancies, according to Tuoi Tre News (August 29, 2026).
• Ordinary weekends: busier than weekdays, with surcharges at many places. If you can, check in on a Sunday night or midweek.

One more thing from our own experience: small hotels tend to answer messages faster and be more flexible about date changes than big platforms, but an agreement by message only counts if you keep it. In the rainy season, when passes can be cut by landslides as they were in November 2025, many hotels and homestays offered date changes, discounts or even free rooms to stranded visitors (Kenh14, November 20, 2025, in Vietnamese). Noise and parking near cheap hotels in Da Lat city center#

Noise

Choosing cheap hotels in Da Lat city center means sleeping next to the market and the Hoa Binh quarter, which stay lively late, especially on Saturday nights. If you are a light sleeper, ask for a back-facing or upper-floor room and avoid rooms right on the streets leading to the night market. The catch is that back rooms often have fewer windows, so you trade quiet for daylight. It is the classic compromise of staying in the center, and one we have made many times.

Car and coach parking

Central Da Lat is tight on space. According to Nguoi Lao Dong (March 9, 2026, in Vietnamese), coaches with more than 29 seats are banned from the Hoa Binh area and narrow streets such as Phan Boi Chau and Nguyen Van Troi. If you are on a group tour in a large coach, you may be dropped elsewhere and walk to the hotel, so check the pickup point in advance.

At the same time, Xuan Huong - Da Lat Ward proposed nine extra free car parks around the center, including spots on Nguyen Van Cu Street, in front of a hotel on Nguyen Chi Thanh, four around the 3/4 Theater in the Hoa Binh area, the market lot on Nguyen Thi Minh Khai and the entrance to Xuan Huong Park (Dan Tri, March 9, 2026, in Vietnamese). These were proposals, so still ask your hotel where you can actually park.

If you are not driving, the center is an advantage: walk to the nearby sights and take a ride for the rest. Renting a motorbike is easy too; just ask whether the hotel can keep it overnight. Fire safety: a few minutes of checks at check-in#

Many cheap hotels in Da Lat city center occupy narrow, multi-story tube houses with tight staircases, exactly the kind of building where fire safety deserves attention. The Lam Dong provincial police (August 13, 2025) say officers in Xuan Huong - Da Lat Ward inspect accommodation regularly, have owners sign safety commitments and push the “four on-the-spot” principle (own staff, own equipment, own plan, own command), especially in peak season.

Incidents still happen. In 2016, a hotel on Le Dai Hanh Street caught fire early in the morning, starting in a fourth-floor room; firefighters got guests out safely and nobody was hurt, but the fire alarm system was not working at the time (Vietnam News Agency via Thanh Tra, January 22, 2016, in Vietnamese). More recently, a hotel fire in Ho Chi Minh City on September 7, 2026 killed two people; survivors described pitch darkness and thick smoke that left them disoriented (Dan Tri, in Vietnamese).

Quick checks when you get to your room

• Walk once from your room to the emergency stairs and count the doors along the way.
• Look for fire extinguishers and exit lights in the corridor, and make sure the exit is not locked or blocked.
• Ask the front desk whether there is a second exit and how the main door opens late at night.
• Keep your phone, a flashlight and shoes within reach; do not smoke in the room or dry clothes on the heater.

10 questions to send before you pay a deposit#

1. What is the exact address (new ward name), and how long is the walk to Da Lat Market?
2. Does the rate for my dates include tax and service? Is there a weekend or holiday surcharge?
3. Does the room have a window, and does it face the street or the back?
4. Which floor is it on, and is there an elevator?
5. Is there a heater and a heavy duvet, and do they cost extra?
6. Is hot water per room or shared?
7. Is there car parking, where, and how much?
8. What do early check-in and late check-out cost? Can I leave luggage?
9. What is the cancellation and date-change policy if a pass closes or a flight is canceled?
10. Is the property officially rated, and if so, how many stars?
