Puppy Farm or ZooDoo? The best things to do in Da Lat with kids

Puppy Farm is the easier choice for families with children aged 2-5, thanks to its shorter drive and flexible visiting time. ZooDoo is better for older kids who love animals, can follow a guided tour, and don't mind a longer car journey.

By Da Lat LoversPublished Updated

At Puppy Farm, children can meet dogs, see other farm animals, and move between gardens and play areas at their own pace. ZooDoo runs guided animal encounters lasting around 90-120 minutes, with visitors following a scheduled tour. Puppy Farm is roughly 7-8 km from central Da Lat, while ZooDoo is about 35 km away. When you're traveling with young children, that difference in driving distance often matters more than how many animals or photo spots each place has.

What are the best things to do in Da Lat with kids of different ages?

Da Lat has animal farms, flower gardens, tourist trains, indoor playgrounds, and family-friendly cafes. But an attraction that keeps a seven-year-old entertained for two hours might not work for an 18-month-old.

Before choosing where to go, consider three things: how far your child can walk, whether they still need an afternoon nap, and how comfortable they are around animals and unfamiliar people.

Under 2 years old: stay close to your hotel

Babies and toddlers who are still learning to walk won't get much out of the biggest playground in the city. A short walk around Xuan Huong Lake, a visit to the Da Lat City Flower Garden, or an hour at a cafe with a toddler-friendly play area can be enough.

Good options include:

  • Xuan Huong Lake and Lam Vien Square: Choose a short, relatively flat walking route.
  • Da Lat City Flower Garden: Stick to the areas closest to the main entrance.
  • Sua BeBe Kids Cafe or Kids Coffee: Useful places for indoor play.
  • A cafe near your hotel: Prioritize easy bathroom access, somewhere to change diapers, and a comfortable place to sit.

Divide the day into two short outings. Spend 60-90 minutes outside in the morning, return to the hotel for lunch and a nap, and only head out again if your child still has energy.

ZooDoo wouldn't be my first choice for this age group. Babies and toddlers can accompany their parents, but the long drive and scheduled tour may be tiring for children who are not used to spending much time in a car.

Ages 2-5: animal farms and play areas work best

This is a good age for exploring Da Lat's family attractions. Puppy Farm is easy to fit into a family itinerary because you decide how long to stay, and children who enjoy dogs, small horses, and other familiar farm animals should find plenty to look at.

Langfarm Center is another option for preschoolers, especially those who like dinosaurs, fairy-tale scenes, and colorful displays. Some large models, sound effects, or unfamiliar figures may frighten sensitive children, so watch how your child reacts before moving into the next area.

On rainy days, head to Dang Dan Cafe & Kids House, which has play areas with ball pits, pretend-play toys, and ceramic painting.

Plan one main attraction for about two hours, followed by a shorter afternoon activity.

Ages 6-10: choose places where children can explore and learn

School-age children want to ask questions, learn about animals, and join in, not just pose for pictures.

ZooDoo becomes more interesting at this age. Guides introduce the animals, explain how visitors should approach them, and supervise feeding activities. Kids fascinated by trains will also love the tourist train from Da Lat Railway Station to Trai Mat.

Langfarm Center also offers themed experiences and opportunities to learn about local agricultural products.

Active kids can try the extra attractions at Puppy Farm, but a family-oriented park doesn't make every game or ride suitable for young children. Always check the minimum height and age requirements before paying for a separate activity.

Puppy Farm vs. ZooDoo: which should you visit?

Both places let children observe animals and participate in supervised encounters, but the visiting experience is different.

Puppy Farm: the easier option for preschoolers

Puppy Farm is in the Mang Lin area along Cam Ly Road. The drive from central Da Lat takes around 20-30 minutes, depending on where you're staying and traffic conditions.

In 2026, the farm is open 7:30 AM-5:30 PM. The dog interaction area has two scheduled sessions:

  • Morning: 8:30 AM-11:30 AM
  • Afternoon: 1:30 PM-4:30 PM

Arrive at noon expecting to spend time with the dogs, and you'll find them on their midday break. You can still walk around other areas, but the part your child is most excited about is on pause.

A practical morning schedule is to arrive around 8:30 AM and visit the dog area first.

Fluffy dogs and a ball on the lawn, the part most kids want to see first.

Afterward, explore the other farm animals, greenhouses, and flower gardens. Around 10:30 AM, stop for a drink before heading back to town for lunch.

Puppy Farm also has dry tubing slides and other recreational activities. Ask staff about height limits, seating arrangements, and participation rules before allowing a young child to try them.

Kids who are nervous around dogs or unfamiliar with larger animals can watch from a comfortable distance first. Move closer only when they're ready and staff say it's safe.

ZooDoo: better for children interested in animals

ZooDoo is along National Highway 27C, approximately 35 km from Da Lat. That's much farther than Puppy Farm, so keep the rest of the day free of other major attractions.

ZooDoo is open 8:00 AM-6:00 PM, but guided visits operate on separate schedules. The first tour starts at 9:00 AM, and the last entry is at 4:00 PM. Advance reservations are recommended.

The guided format is the draw here: children learn about the animals, observe their behavior, and feed certain species under staff supervision.

Kids aged 5-10 who enjoy asking questions and discovering how animals live get the most out of it.

ZooDoo also runs a shuttle from the Go! Da Lat supermarket area, departing at 9:30 AM, with a return departure from ZooDoo at 1:00 PM. Book a seat in advance if you plan to use it.

A private car with a driver is more flexible when traveling with babies or toddlers who need naps, feeding breaks, or an unexpected stop. The trade-off is a higher transport cost.

Other family-friendly attractions in Da Lat

You don't need to visit an animal farm every day. Da Lat has several attractions closer to the city center that work well for families who want to keep travel time short.

Da Lat City Flower Garden

An easy outdoor walk

The Da Lat City Flower Garden is located at 2 Tran Nhan Tong Street, near Xuan Huong Lake, and suits children who enjoy flowers, open spaces, and gentle walks.

The garden is open 6:30 AM-6:00 PM daily.

Stick to the paths closest to the main entrance, walk past the flower beds, and take breaks whenever your child wants to stop.

Toddlers often find small details more interesting than a carefully planned sightseeing route. They might spend several minutes watching fish, examining a flower, or looking at leaves on the ground. Allow around 60-90 minutes.

Families who've already seen Fresh Garden or another large flower attraction can skip this one without missing anything essential.

Langfarm Center

Dinosaurs, fairy tales, and indoor activities

A long-necked dinosaur stands in the forecourt, so kids have something to look at before they even get in.

Langfarm Center is located at 1B Hoang Van Thu Street, relatively close to central Da Lat.

The complex combines the Langfarm Fairytale themed attraction, displays inspired by fantasy settings, activities related to local specialty products, dining, and shopping.

Children can explore colorful environments featuring imaginary creatures, dinosaurs, and decorative scenes, while parents have places to sit, eat, and take a break without traveling to another attraction.

Langfarm Underland, a multisensory experience with moving seats, has its own rules: children under 0.9 m tall cannot participate, and children between 0.9 m and under 1.2 m must be accompanied by an adult.

Toddlers are better off with the gentler activities included in the standard admission package. Hold off on the extra motion-based experience until you know your child meets the requirements and would actually enjoy it. Allow approximately 1.5-2 hours.

Da Lat Railway Station

Great for children who love trains

The station's three yellow gables, seen from under the platform canopy.

Da Lat Railway Station is located at 1 Quang Trung Street. Kids who love trains can tour the historic station and ride the tourist railway to Trai Mat, one of the most enjoyable things they can do in Da Lat.

The journey takes approximately 30 minutes each way. In 2026, train DL3 departs Da Lat at 9:55 AM and reaches Trai Mat at approximately 10:25 AM. The return service, DL4, departs at 10:55 AM.

Arrive at the station at least 20-30 minutes before departure to collect or purchase tickets, locate the correct carriage, and settle into your seats.

For many young children, the train ride itself is enough, and Linh Phuoc Pagoda can wait, especially if your child is tired or uncomfortable in crowded places.

Keep children close on station platforms. Don't let them run near the platform edge or step onto the railway tracks.

Fresh Garden

Flowers and family photos

Fresh Garden is located in the Van Thanh area, approximately 3-4 km from central Da Lat.

The attraction has flower gardens, decorative photo areas, and an indoor animal exhibition area, so parents get their photos while children have something interesting to explore.

It's open 7:30 AM-5:30 PM. Aim to visit between 8:00 AM and 10:00 AM, when children have more energy and the family can return to town before lunch.

Some sections include slopes and areas near water, so a stroller won't get everywhere.

Fresh Garden is optional, and easy to drop if your child has already had a good time at Puppy Farm and nobody in the family is keen on flowers.

Xuan Huong Lake and Lam Vien Square

An easy, low-cost outing

Lam Vien Square is wide and open, with Xuan Huong Lake just across the road.

Xuan Huong Lake is close to central Da Lat and easy to combine with meals or a break at your hotel. Lam Vien Square sits beside the lake and has large open areas where families can walk and take photos.

With toddlers, a short section of the lakeside path is plenty. There are roads with vehicle traffic and areas near the water, so adults should stay close to their children.

The best times for a short visit are around 7:30-9:00 AM or 4:00-5:00 PM, depending on rain and wind.

The central area can get crowded and noticeably colder in the evening, so children under three are better off going while it's still light. The city lights aren't worth staying out late for.

Da Lat attraction ticket prices for families in 2026

Many attractions set children's admission fees by height, not age.

Prices and opening hours can change with the season, so call ahead or check at the ticket counter before paying.

ZooDoo's one-way shuttle costs 50,000 VND for guests 120 cm and taller, and 25,000 VND for children between 90 cm and 120 cm. Children under 90 cm travel free.

As an example, two adults traveling with a child who is 1.05 m tall would pay approximately 240,000 VND at Puppy Farm. The same family would pay 375,000 VND for ZooDoo admission, excluding transportation.

Ticket prices are only part of the picture. An attraction close to your hotel, where your child can play for two hours before returning for lunch, may be more practical than a cheaper attraction requiring a long car journey.

Are there indoor playgrounds and kid-friendly cafes in Da Lat?

Yes. Indoor play areas are particularly useful when visiting during the rainy season or on days when the weather is cold and windy.

With young children, a cafe with a proper play area is often more useful than a famous hilltop cafe with beautiful views. Parents get a chance to sit down, children can move around, and nobody needs to remain outside in uncomfortable weather.

Dang Dan is located in an alley near Domaine de Marie Church, along Mai Hac De Street.

The cafe offers activities such as a small ball pit, pretend-play toys, a sand play area, toy vehicles, seesaws, ceramic painting, and sand art. Preschoolers who enjoy imaginative play and simple craft activities will find plenty to do.

It's open 9:00 AM-9:00 PM, and the phone number is 0389 292 126.

Activities such as ceramic painting may have separate fees. Ask about prices before allowing children to choose an activity.

Kids Coffee

10 Nguyen Tu Luc

Kids Coffee is another option when searching for a kid-friendly cafe in Da Lat with a designated play area.

The cafe is located at 10 Nguyen Tu Luc Street, northeast of Xuan Huong Lake, and is open roughly 8:00 AM-9:00 PM. It's useful for a short play session, especially if your family is staying near the City Flower Garden or Nguyen Cong Tru area.

Check the playground's age suitability and any additional admission fees before entering. With young children, pick a seat where you can clearly see the play area.

Sua BeBe Kids Cafe

131 Nguyen Tu Luc

Sua BeBe is also on Nguyen Tu Luc Street, at number 131.

The cafe combines indoor play equipment with activities designed for children to explore and move around.

It's open around 8:00 AM-8:00 PM, and the phone number is 0397 865 414.

Sua BeBe is another covered option for days when your child wants indoor entertainment. Families staying on the western side of Da Lat may find Dang Dan on Mai Hac De more convenient.

Early dinner and return to the hotel

This schedule is built for children aged 2-5 who still need afternoon naps.

Fresh Garden isn't far from Puppy Farm on a map, but squeezing both into the same morning is too much. By the time you leave Puppy Farm around 10:30 or 11:00 AM, your child may already be ready for lunch and a rest.

The afternoon walk can be replaced with a kid-friendly cafe. If it rains, choose an indoor play area instead of searching for another outdoor attraction.

Day 2: City Flower Garden or Langfarm Center

    Breakfast

  5. After 12:00 PM

    Heading off

Checkout and transfer to the bus station or airport

Choose the City Flower Garden if your child enjoys walking outside and looking at flowers. Choose Langfarm Center if they're more interested in themed displays and interactive activities.

If you're flying out of Lien Khuong Airport, allow additional time for the journey from Da Lat to the airport, and avoid scheduling an attraction immediately before your flight.

Have a third day? Choose ZooDoo or the Trai Mat train

With three days in Da Lat and a child old enough to enjoy animal encounters, ZooDoo can take up a separate morning. Book a morning tour, prepare familiar snacks for before or after the visit, and allow enough time for the return drive.

A gentler alternative is the tourist train from Da Lat to Trai Mat. Children who love trains rarely need another major activity after the journey.

Fitting ZooDoo, Puppy Farm, Fresh Garden, and Langfarm Center all into three days is too much. Choose the two attractions your children are most likely to enjoy. Leave the remaining time for short walks, meals, and rest.

Where should families with young children stay in Da Lat?

Choosing the right accommodation is almost as important as choosing attractions. A hotel with an elevator, comfortable room temperature, and easy access to restaurants can make the trip considerably easier.

A scenic homestay may look appealing in photos, but climbing a steep hill every time you leave the property gets tiring when carrying a toddler or pushing a stroller.

Xuan Huong Lake and central Da Lat: best for convenience

First-time family visitors will find the city center the easiest base. Look for accommodation along or near Nguyen Chi Thanh, Le Dai Hanh, Phan Boi Chau, or the more accessible sections of Bui Thi Xuan Street. From there it's easy to find food, arrange taxis, buy basic supplies for children, and reach Xuan Huong Lake.

But central Da Lat is far from flat, and two hotels only a few hundred meters apart may have very different access. One might be directly on a main road, while another requires walking up a steep lane or several flights of stairs.

Check the actual entrance and walking route before booking, not just the distance shown on a map.

Tran Hung Dao and Quang Trung: for a quieter stay

Families who want to stay away from the busiest streets around the night market can look here. Da Lat Railway Station is on Quang Trung Street, making the area convenient for a station visit or a train journey to Trai Mat. You'll still need transport for most animal farms and attractions farther from the center.

Tuyen Lam Lake: best for resort-focused trips

Tuyen Lam Lake is a good choice for families who want to spend much of their time at a resort, with perhaps one outside activity each day.

Before booking, check whether the property has a restaurant, suitable facilities for children, laundry services, and convenient transport.

Families with children under two who plan to eat in central Da Lat every day may find the longer journeys inconvenient. Repeated car trips can be tiring, even when the distances don't look particularly long.

What to ask before booking a hotel

  • Does the property have an elevator or step-free access?
  • Can it provide a baby cot, extra blankets, or suitable heating?
  • Does the bathroom have reliable hot water and a non-slip floor?
  • Is early breakfast available, or can staff help warm baby food?
  • Are there quieter rooms away from bars, entertainment areas, or busy streets?

Photos of the bed and mountain view don't tell you much. With a young child, a quiet and comfortable room at night is much more valuable than a balcony overlooking the clouds.

What to pack for Da Lat with a baby or toddler

Da Lat can feel warm in the middle of the day and noticeably colder in the early morning and evening. During the rainy season, conditions can change quickly, particularly when your family is visiting outdoor attractions.

Clothing: pack layers rather than one heavy jacket

A thick winter jacket all day is overkill. In the morning, a long-sleeved shirt, light jacket, and long trousers are practical starting choices, and as temperatures rise, remove a layer to prevent overheating.

Keep an extra jacket, dry socks, a hat, a light scarf, and a change of clothes in your day bag. Children sensitive to the cold need additional warm clothing for the evening.

Check the forecast for your actual travel dates, not just monthly temperature averages.

Stroller or baby carrier?

A stroller can be useful around accessible sections of Xuan Huong Lake, inside hotels, and in attractions with relatively flat paths.

But many places in Da Lat have slopes, stairs, stone walkways, and slippery surfaces after rain, and a stroller won't reach every section of Puppy Farm, ZooDoo, or hillside attractions. If your child is still small enough to be carried comfortably, bring a baby carrier suited to their age and weight.

When traveling by car, children should use appropriate safety restraints. Ask your transport provider about child car seats before booking, especially for longer journeys on winding mountain roads.

Small items that are easy to forget

Along with clothes, pack personal hygiene supplies, tissues, bags for wet clothing, drinking water, familiar snacks, and any medication your child uses according to medical advice.

Babies who still drink formula or expressed milk need enough for the journey, plus suitable feeding and cleaning equipment.

Sunscreen, a sun hat, and a compact raincoat are also useful: cool temperatures don't eliminate the need for sun protection.

Attractions I'd skip when visiting Da Lat with young children

Not every famous Da Lat attraction belongs on a family itinerary.

Cloud hunting at 4-5 AM

Waking a young child before sunrise just to catch the clouds is rarely worth disrupting their sleep. They may end up tired for the rest of the day, and there's no guarantee that the weather will produce the scenery you're hoping to see.

If the family really wants to see the misty hills, consider a viewpoint that doesn't require leaving before dawn.

Long forest hikes and mountain climbs

Extended trekking routes around Langbiang and other forested hills aren't ideal for young children who aren't used to walking long distances.

Choose developed visitor areas with clear paths and an easy way to return to the entrance.

Waterfalls with steep, slippery access

Elephant Falls and other natural waterfalls with steep or slippery access routes are best skipped when traveling with a toddler.

Datanla Waterfall has organized visitor facilities and recreational activities, but younger children shouldn't participate in alpine coaster rides or adventure activities unless they meet the operator's specific requirements. A popular family destination doesn't make every activity suitable for all ages.

Hilltop cafes chosen only for photos

Some famous Da Lat cafes have multiple staircases, elevated decks, or paths close to steep slopes.

With an energetic toddler, parents may spend the entire visit following their child around rather than enjoying the view. A simpler cafe with good seating and a safe play area is often more useful.

Three or four distant attractions in one day

Every stop involves more than the time spent at the attraction. You have to get children out of the car, buy tickets, find bathrooms, organize snacks, and settle everyone back into their seats. Three attractions on a map can turn into a day with six or seven tiring transitions.

If your child is exhausted, skipping an attraction you've already paid for can still be the sensible decision.

Keeping children safe around animals

Puppy Farm and ZooDoo are appealing to children, but parents need to supervise animal encounters directly.

Teach children not to pull an animal's ears, tail, or fur, and not to chase animals that are moving away. Don't let children put their hands or food near an animal's mouth unless staff have specifically explained that the interaction is allowed.

At ZooDoo, visitors must follow the guided group and staff instructions, and only use food approved by the attraction for feeding activities.

Photo: ZooDoo
Hand-feeding a wallaby is the kind of contact to try only when staff say it's fine.

Children with known animal allergies or other relevant health conditions may need additional precautions.

Even an animal that appears calm can react unexpectedly when touched or startled. Let your child observe animals from a comfortable distance first, and never force a hug or petting session just to get a photograph.

When is the best time to visit Da Lat with kids?

Da Lat has a drier period from around November to April and a rainier period from approximately May to October, although the exact transition varies from year to year. Months with less rain make outdoor plans with young children easier.

January to March

These months bring plenty of good days for flower gardens, farms, and outdoor walks. Early mornings and evenings can still be chilly, so pack extra layers.

May to August

Rain becomes more important when planning daily activities. Try to schedule outdoor attractions in the morning and keep an indoor alternative for the afternoon; a kid-friendly cafe or Langfarm Center can be useful when the weather doesn't cooperate.

September to October

This period requires more flexibility because of rain. Avoid buying too many tickets with strict cancellation or date-change policies, plan one main activity per day, and keep your schedule open to changes.

November to December

Conditions may become drier and cooler, but nights can feel cold, especially for children accustomed to warmer climates. Pack for the evening, because daytime temperatures drop quickly after sunset.

A good family trip comes from a few days of manageable weather, convenient accommodation, and an unhurried itinerary, much more than from a month marketed as the perfect travel season.

Practical tips for international families visiting Da Lat

International families rarely struggle with the attractions themselves. The main challenges are transportation, communication, and finding suitable supplies for young children.

You can search for attractions using English names such as Dalat Railway Station, Dalat City Flower Garden, Puppy Farm, or ZooDoo on mapping apps.

Addresses may appear under older or newer administrative area names. When arranging transport, using the attraction's name and checking its map pin is often more reliable than relying on a street address alone.

Arrange suitable transportation

A private car with a driver is the easiest way to reach farther spots such as ZooDoo. If your child needs a car seat, arrange one in advance, because you can't count on an ordinary taxi having one.

Motorbikes aren't a practical default choice for families with young children, especially on longer mountain routes.

Prepare for food preferences and allergies

Check restaurant menus before arriving, especially if your child has a food allergy, follows a restricted diet, or only eats familiar meals. Bakeries, buffet counters, and local specialty shops often have no detailed ingredient information in English.

Bring familiar snacks for the journey, especially when traveling to attractions outside the city.

Keep important information accessible

Carry your child's identification or travel documents, travel insurance details, and emergency contact information. The emergency ambulance number in Vietnam is 115.

Bring enough of any specific medication your child needs for the whole trip, and keep it accessible in your carry-on, not inside checked luggage.

Don't underestimate Da Lat's hills

A short distance on a map can still be a hard walk. Da Lat has steep roads, sloping sidewalks, and some narrow streets, and pushing a stroller over a short but steep route can be more tiring than expected.

Choose accommodation with straightforward access and use a car for longer journeys between attractions.

How many attractions should you visit each day with kids?

Children under three need just one main attraction per day, plus a short walk near the hotel if they still have energy.

Children aged 3-5 may enjoy two activities, but one should be the main outing and the other something simple, such as a cafe or a lakeside walk.

Children aged 6-10 can usually handle longer visits, though they still need time for meals and breaks.

Leave space in your schedule. The driver may arrive late, your toddler may need a change of clothes, rain may start unexpectedly, or your child may decide that watching fish for 20 minutes is more interesting than visiting another tourist attraction. All of these are normal parts of traveling with children.

Booking an entire day of organized tours may seem easier than planning things yourself, but children are more likely to enjoy an unhurried morning at an animal farm than remember how many landmarks they passed in one afternoon.

Start a first family trip to Da Lat with Puppy Farm in the morning and Xuan Huong Lake in the afternoon, then visit the City Flower Garden or Langfarm Center the following day. Once your children are older and more interested in animals, ZooDoo is a worthwhile addition to a separate, relaxed day.

FAQ

What are the best things to do in Da Lat with a child under 3?

The City Flower Garden, a short walk around Xuan Huong Lake, and toddler-friendly cafes such as Dang Dan Cafe & Kids House or Kids Coffee are practical options. Choose places close to your hotel, with convenient bathrooms and an easy return journey when your child needs a nap.

Where should families with young children go in Da Lat if they only have two days?

For children aged 2-5, visit Puppy Farm on the first morning, return to the hotel for lunch and a nap, then take a short walk around Xuan Huong Lake. On the second day, choose either the City Flower Garden or Langfarm Center. You don't need to add ZooDoo, which requires a considerably longer drive.

Are there indoor playgrounds for kids in Da Lat when it rains?

Yes. Options include Dang Dan Cafe & Kids House on Mai Hac De Street, and Kids Coffee or Sua BeBe Kids Cafe on Nguyen Tu Luc Street. Contact the venue before visiting to confirm opening hours, playground fees, and whether the play area is operating.

Are Puppy Farm and ZooDoo suitable for a 2-year-old?

A two-year-old can accompany their parents to either attraction, but Puppy Farm is generally more convenient because it's closer to central Da Lat and offers a flexible schedule. ZooDoo involves a roughly 35 km drive and a guided tour lasting 90-120 minutes, so it's better for children who are comfortable with longer car journeys and structured activities.

Should families with babies stay in a hotel or homestay in Da Lat?

A centrally located hotel with an elevator, reliable hot water, a comfortably warm room, and easy access to food is usually the more convenient choice. A homestay can also work well if it has safe access, few stairs, suitable facilities for children, and isn't too far from restaurants or essential services.
