Da Lat to Nha Trang: how far is it, and how long does it take?

Da Lat and Nha Trang are approximately 135 km apart via National Highway 27C, with a typical driving time of 3-4 hours. While repairs continue along Khanh Le Pass, allow extra time for roadwork delays.

By Da Lat LoversPublished Updated

Taking a bus or limousine is usually the most practical way to travel between Da Lat and Nha Trang, especially for solo travelers and couples. Families with young children, larger groups and passengers arriving at Cam Ranh Airport may find a private car more convenient. Whichever option you choose, travel during daylight and check the latest conditions on Khanh Le Pass before leaving.

How far is Da Lat from Nha Trang?

The distance from central Da Lat to central Nha Trang is approximately 134-140 km (83-87 miles) via National Highway 27C, the shortest and most commonly used route, which crosses Khanh Le Pass before descending through Khanh Vinh District toward Nha Trang.

The actual distance depends on your hotel, bus station and drop-off point. For example, a vehicle picking you up near Xuan Huong Lake and dropping you off on Tran Phu Street will cover a slightly different distance from one traveling between Da Lat Interprovincial Bus Station and Nha Trang's northern bus station.

Here is how much time you should allow.

TransportEstimated travel time
Standard seated bus3.5-4.5 hours
Limousine minibus or coach3.5-4.5 hours
Private car3-4 hours in normal conditions
Motorbike4-5 hours, excluding longer stops
Car during rain, fog or construction delaysPotentially more than 5 hours

These are planning estimates, not guaranteed journey times. Some operators advertise shorter trips, but additional passenger stops and roadwork delays can make the journey longer.

Avoid planning around the absolute minimum of three hours, particularly if you have a flight afterward. With repairs still taking place along Khanh Le Pass, leaving sufficient time matters more than choosing the operator advertising the fastest journey.

Which route connects Da Lat and Nha Trang?

The usual route along National Highway 27C follows this sequence:

Da Lat - Lac Duong - Bidoup Nui Ba area - Khanh Le Pass - Khanh Vinh - Dien Khanh - Nha Trang.

Leaving Da Lat, the road passes through the Central Highlands and forested mountain areas before descending toward the coastal plains. Traveling in the opposite direction, from Nha Trang to Da Lat, the main mountain ascent begins after passing through the Khanh Vinh area.

The section requiring the most attention is Khanh Le Pass, which is approximately 33 km long and has numerous sharp bends and substantial elevation changes. On a clear day, the surrounding mountains and forests are easy to see. During rain, low clouds and fog can reduce visibility considerably at higher elevations.

135 km of mountain road is nothing like the same distance on a flat expressway. Road gradients, curves and weather conditions play a major role in determining how long the journey takes.

Is Khanh Le Pass open and safe to travel?

National Highway 27C through Khanh Le Pass has reopened, but repairs are continuing at several landslide-damaged sections. Traffic is not permitted to pass through the mountain road freely at all hours.

Following severe rain and flooding in November 2025, multiple sections of the road suffered damage. From February 13, 2026, authorities permitted vehicles to travel through the pass between 5 AM and 6 PM each day. Signs at both ends of the pass indicate the continued overnight traffic restrictions from 6 PM to 5 AM.

Repair work is continuing at nine damaged locations, with completion expected in December 2026. At certain construction sites, traffic may be temporarily stopped while crews remove unstable rocks from slopes above the road. Each stoppage should last no longer than one hour.

What is the best time to cross Khanh Le Pass?

For most tourists, departing between 7 AM and 1 PM is the easiest option, provided the road is operating normally.

Leaving Da Lat around 7:30-8:30 AM should put you in Nha Trang by late morning or early afternoon. In the other direction, a departure from Nha Trang around 7-9 AM gives you time to reach Da Lat, check into your accommodation and rest before evening.

Departures after 2 PM require more careful planning. There may still be enough time to complete the journey, but a construction delay or prolonged rainfall could disrupt the schedule.

Some booking platforms display late-afternoon or nighttime departures on this route. For those, ask the operator which route it actually uses, whether it detours around Khanh Le Pass and how it complies with the current traffic restrictions.

Is Khanh Le Pass dangerous?

Khanh Le Pass presents genuine risks from steep roads, sharp bends, fog and landslides during heavy rain. Serious accidents have occurred along this route, so it would be misleading to suggest that driving slowly makes the journey completely safe.

That doesn't mean you have to give up on the Nha Trang-Da Lat route. Just choose your transport, travel time and route according to current road conditions. Travelers with little experience on mountain roads are better off on a scheduled bus run by an established transport company, or in a private car with a suitable driver, than riding a motorbike themselves.

During official warnings for heavy rain, landslides or road closures, change your departure time, use an approved alternative route or postpone the journey. A hotel reservation is not a good reason to continue through a closed mountain road.

Da Lat to Nha Trang bus: which operator should you choose?

Buses and limousine services are the most straightforward options for traveling between the two cities. Someone else handles more than 100 km of mountain driving, tickets are priced per passenger, and several operators provide pickup and drop-off locations in both Da Lat and Nha Trang.

Operators on this route in 2026 include FUTA Bus Lines, Khanh Phong, Thinh Phat Xanh, Sao Limousine, GoroTrip and VietNam Explore.

Fares may change depending on the departure date, pickup or drop-off location, seat type and availability. Always confirm the price for your specific departure before paying.

FUTA Bus Lines: a practical budget option

FUTA Bus Lines, commonly known in Vietnam as Phuong Trang, operates services between Da Lat and Nha Trang in both directions. On September 20, 2026, the operator introduced its KimLong 99 N29 limousine seated coach, with a fare of VND 210,000 per ticket.

Solo travelers and couples with ordinary luggage and no sightseeing stops planned along the way should check FUTA first.

You can check schedules through FUTA's booking system or contact its hotline at 1900 6067 to confirm departure times and pickup or drop-off locations.

These are premium seated coaches, not long-distance sleeper buses. Limousine seats may offer more space and recline further than standard seats, but you still won't be lying flat during the journey.

Khanh Phong: useful for central pickup and drop-off

Khanh Phong has departures from Da Lat to Nha Trang at 9 AM, 11 AM and 1 PM, with fares around VND 230,000 per passenger. One of its offices in Nha Trang is Kiosk No. 2, at the Muong Thanh Hotel area, 4 Tran Phu Street.

This location can be convenient for visitors staying near the central beachfront, but confirm the exact office address before leaving your hotel. Tran Phu Street is long, and several transport companies have different pickup locations along or near it.

Thinh Phat Xanh and Sao Limousine

Thinh Phat Xanh runs departures from Da Lat at 8 AM and 12:30 PM, with fares around VND 250,000 per passenger in 2026. Its pickup point is near Da Lat Market, while its Nha Trang drop-off location is around April 2 Square.

Sao Limousine has departures at 8 AM and 1 PM, with fares around VND 230,000 per passenger. The company uses designated pickup points and its Nha Trang office for passenger services.

When booking a smaller limousine vehicle, confirm three things: the actual vehicle configuration, how much luggage you can bring and exactly where you will be dropped off. Saving VND 20,000 on a ticket means little once you add an extra taxi journey to reach your accommodation.

Should you choose a standard bus or limousine?

Not every vehicle advertised as a limousine has the same layout. Some are premium minibuses with around 9-11 seats, others are converted 16-seat vehicles, and some are larger coaches with more spacious seating. Seat recline, legroom and luggage capacity vary considerably.

Families traveling with children should ask about suitable child restraints, seating arrangements and luggage space before booking. Shared shuttle services may not have the child safety seat your family needs.

Bus schedules between Da Lat and Nha Trang

Bus timetables can change depending on the booking date, road restrictions and operator adjustments. The following schedule is useful for choosing a departure window before you confirm with the operator.

Is it better to travel in the morning or afternoon?

Morning is the better choice for most visitors. Leaving Da Lat at 8 AM should give you a useful part of the afternoon in Nha Trang. You can leave your luggage at the hotel, have lunch and spend time by the beach instead of losing most of the day to transport.

Reach Nha Trang before lunch and there is still an afternoon left for a lounger under the umbrellas.

To squeeze in one more morning in Da Lat, a departure around noon or 1 PM may work, but check the current road conditions and confirm when the vehicle expects to cross the restricted mountain section.

The same applies in the opposite direction. Traveling from Nha Trang to Da Lat in the morning makes unexpected road closures or weather-related delays easier to handle.

Where do buses pick up passengers?

Not every service departs from the main bus station.

In Da Lat, common pickup areas include Da Lat Interprovincial Bus Station, Da Lat Market, transport company offices and designated meeting points around the city center.

Da Lat Interprovincial Bus Station, one of the usual boarding points for the ride down to Nha Trang.

In Nha Trang, you may encounter pickup locations around the northern bus station, Tran Phu Street, To Huu Street and other central locations.

The address printed on your ticket is the one you should follow.

From hotels around Nguyen Chi Thanh, Phan Boi Chau or Da Lat Market, many central pickup points are a short taxi ride away. Ask before counting on the operator to drive directly to your hotel, particularly if it is on a narrow street or in an area where stopping is restricted.

In Nha Trang, also distinguish between an office pickup and a hotel shuttle transfer. These may have different meeting times even when the main bus departure is the same.

Is a private car from Da Lat to Nha Trang worth it?

A private car becomes more attractive when you have three or four passengers, young children, several large suitcases or specific pickup requirements.

Speed isn't really the main advantage. You can usually arrange departure directly from your hotel, avoid moving luggage between multiple vehicles and request suitable rest stops, provided the driver and traffic conditions allow them.

For a group of four, compare the total private transfer price with four limousine tickets plus the taxis needed to reach the pickup point and your final hotel.

The headline price in an advertisement rarely tells the whole story. Before confirming a private transfer, ask about:

  • Whether the vehicle has 4, 5, 7 or 16 seats and how many passengers and suitcases it can realistically carry.
  • Whether the quote includes fuel, road fees, pickup charges and applicable taxes.
  • Whether the driver plans to use National Highway 27C or an alternative route if Khanh Le Pass is restricted.
  • What happens if heavy rain or a road closure forces a departure change.
  • Whether suitable child safety seats can be provided when required.

For the trip down to the coast, specify whether your destination is a hotel in central Nha Trang, a resort in Bai Dai or Cam Ranh Airport. These are different destinations and may affect the transfer price substantially.

How to get from Cam Ranh Airport to Da Lat

Cam Ranh International Airport (CXR) is located south of central Nha Trang. The direct road journey from the airport to Da Lat is generally around 120-140 km, depending on the exact route, and you should allow approximately 3.5-4.5 hours when road conditions are normal.

Terminal 2 at Cam Ranh International Airport

The wave-roofed international terminal at Cam Ranh. Transfers to Da Lat may meet you in the arrivals hall or at a point outside.

From the airport, you can head straight up to Da Lat without going into central Nha Trang. Travelers landing at Cam Ranh with Da Lat as their first stop should look for transport that picks them up directly at the airport.

Shared shuttle or limousine from Cam Ranh Airport

Best for one or two travelers, 7 AM and 10 AM departures

Some booking platforms list shared services from Cam Ranh Airport to Da Lat.

For example, Cat Thien Hai Limousine runs departures at 7 AM and 10 AM with a scheduled journey time of approximately 4 hours 30 minutes. The fare is VND 649,000 per passenger in 2026. Prices may differ depending on the vehicle and drop-off location.

Also ask whether pickup takes place directly outside the airport arrivals terminal or at another designated meeting point. This option is most suitable for one or two travelers whose flights arrive early enough to match a shared departure.

Do not book a shuttle departing immediately after your scheduled landing time. Even when a flight arrives punctually, you still need time to disembark, collect your luggage and reach the pickup location.

Private transfer from Cam Ranh Airport to Da Lat

Best for families and groups, from VND 1,100,000 per vehicle

A private transfer is more convenient for families and groups.

In 2026, Go365 offers private Cam Ranh-Da Lat transfers from VND 1,400,000 per vehicle for 4-7-seat cars and from VND 3,200,000 for 16-seat vehicles.

Khac Lanh starts from VND 1,100,000 for standard 4-5-seat vehicles on the Cam Ranh-Da Lat route, though that is a starting rate, not a guarantee that every airport pickup costs exactly that amount.

When requesting a quotation, provide your flight number, scheduled arrival time, number of passengers, luggage count and hotel address.

For three adults traveling with three large suitcases, a seven-seat vehicle may be more practical than a four-seat car. Larger groups should compare the price of a 16-seat vehicle before automatically booking two smaller cars.

Travel to Nha Trang first, then take a bus to Da Lat

Best if you want a night or two in Nha Trang first

This makes sense if you want to spend one or two nights in Nha Trang before visiting Da Lat, or if no direct airport transfer matches your arrival time.

From Cam Ranh Airport, take an airport shuttle or taxi to Nha Trang, then travel to the office of your chosen bus operator for the journey to Da Lat.

The drawback is an extra transfer, additional travel time into the city and potentially a long wait before your next departure.

For a trip to Da Lat alone, going into Nha Trang first is usually unnecessary. However, if your flight arrives late and the mountain pass is operating under nighttime restrictions, staying overnight in Cam Ranh or Nha Trang may be more practical than attempting to continue immediately.

What if your flight lands after 5 PM?

For a late-afternoon or evening arrival at Cam Ranh, check the traffic restrictions before reserving a direct journey over Khanh Le Pass. The 6 PM-5 AM restriction still applies.

A private transfer company may advertise 24-hour airport pickup, but its drivers still can't travel through every mountain road at any hour.

You have two reasonable options: stay overnight and depart the following morning, or ask the operator about a legally accessible alternative route, including the additional travel time and cost.

Still choosing flights for a Da Lat-only trip? Compare fares to Lien Khuong Airport (DLI) before automatically choosing Cam Ranh.

Is there another road from Nha Trang to Da Lat that avoids Khanh Le Pass?

Yes, alternative routes exist, but you should not choose a long detour based only on the distance displayed by a navigation application.

Besides National Highway 27C, routes involving National Highway 1A, National Highway 27B or National Highway 27 may be considered depending on where you start and which roads are currently open.

One possible route heads toward Phan Rang before following National Highway 27 through Ngoan Muc Pass toward the Da Lat area. This is longer than the Khanh Le route, and Ngoan Muc Pass itself has steep sections and numerous curves requiring care, particularly in wet weather.

A route involving National Highway 1A and National Highway 27B is approximately 179-180 km. Longer detours through Phan Rang and National Highway 27 may cover an even greater distance, depending on the exact roads used.

Journey times can increase substantially when traveling around a closure on National Highway 27C, so during a major disruption on Khanh Le Pass, wait for your transport operator to confirm the alternative route before counting on a fixed arrival time.

Avoiding Khanh Le Pass doesn't mean avoiding difficult mountain roads, either. You are changing the route and its conditions, not removing mountain driving from the journey altogether.

Should you ride a motorbike from Da Lat to Nha Trang?

A motorbike is suitable for experienced riders who are comfortable with long mountain roads, steep gradients and sharp bends, and who have enough time to complete the journey during daylight. It's not a route to choose simply to save money or take photographs.

The journey over Khanh Le Pass includes long mountain sections, limited roadside services in some areas and weather conditions that can change quickly between the highlands and the coastal lowlands. Riding around central Da Lat is very different from spending hours on National Highway 27C.

Riders need a valid motorcycle driving licence of the appropriate category under Vietnamese law and a vehicle in safe mechanical condition. Before leaving, check the brakes, tires, lights, fuel level and weather forecast. Wear an appropriate helmet.

Check before renting whether a motorbike from Da Lat can be dropped off in Nha Trang. Most rental agreements specify where the vehicle must be returned, and a one-way arrangement needs to be agreed upon in advance.

Foreign visitors must also verify that their driving licence is legally recognized in Vietnam before operating a motorbike. If you do not have the proper licence or are unfamiliar with long mountain rides, travel by bus, car or a suitable licensed driver service instead.

Can you stop for photos along Khanh Le Pass?

The scenery is particularly impressive around the higher sections, where forested slopes and mountain layers stretch into the distance. However, not every scenic viewpoint is a legal or safe stopping place.

Do not stop at blind corners, near the edge of the road, in front of barriers or in areas displaying falling-rock warnings. Only stop where parking is permitted and conditions are safe.

While repairs are ongoing, it is better to pass through construction areas as directed rather than treating them as photography stops.

Is there a train or flight from Nha Trang to Da Lat?

Train

There is no direct passenger train service between Nha Trang and Da Lat. Nha Trang has a railway station on Vietnam's North-South Railway, but that railway does not continue directly into central Da Lat.

Da Lat Railway Station is famous for its historic architecture and the tourist train service between Da Lat and Trai Mat, but that heritage railway is not a transport connection from Nha Trang to Da Lat. There is no direct Nha Trang-Da Lat train ticket to search for when planning this journey.

Plane

Da Lat is served by Lien Khuong Airport, while Nha Trang uses Cam Ranh International Airport. However, there is no regular nonstop commercial flight between Cam Ranh and Lien Khuong.

Flight booking platforms may display connecting itineraries, but flying through another city is generally impractical for a road journey of approximately 135 km. Once you include airport transfers, check-in procedures, possible connections and travel from the arrival airport to your hotel, road transport remains the more sensible choice for most travelers.

Should you visit Da Lat or Nha Trang first?

The best order depends on your flights, the weather and how many nights you have. For a trip combining the Central Highlands with the coast, allow at least four days, preferably five, so you do not spend too much of your holiday changing hotels.

Five days, four nights: Da Lat first, Nha Trang second

  1. Day 1

    Arrive in Da Lat

Arrive in Da Lat, check into your hotel, walk around Xuan Huong Lake and have dinner in the city center.

  2. Day 2

    Explore Da Lat

Spend the day around one general area of Da Lat, such as Trai Mat or attractions north of the city, instead of constantly traveling between distant locations.

  3. Day 3

    Down to Nha Trang

Check out and take a bus from Da Lat to Nha Trang around 7:30-9 AM. After arriving, leave your luggage at the hotel, rest and spend the afternoon near the beach.

  4. Day 4

    Explore Nha Trang

Spend the day in Nha Trang. Depending on the weather, choose a beach day, city sightseeing or activities around the bay.

  5. Day 5

    Fly out of Cam Ranh

Check out and travel to Cam Ranh Airport.

This itinerary works particularly well if you fly into Lien Khuong and depart from Cam Ranh, or begin your trip in Da Lat by road, and it saves you going back up to Da Lat once you've reached the coast.

Five days, four nights: Nha Trang first, Da Lat second

  1. Day 1

    Arrive in Nha Trang

Fly into Cam Ranh, transfer to Nha Trang and check into your accommodation.

  2. Day 2

A full day in Nha Trang

Spend a full day exploring Nha Trang.

  3. Day 3

    Up to Da Lat

Take a bus from Nha Trang to Da Lat around 7-9 AM. Check into your hotel and rest after the mountain journey.

  4. Day 4

    Explore Da Lat

A full day around Da Lat.

  5. Day 5

    Fly out of Lien Khuong

Travel to Lien Khuong Airport for your departure.

This route is convenient when flights into Cam Ranh are better for your travel dates, or when you prefer to finish your trip in Da Lat's cooler climate.

Between October and December, pay close attention to the Nha Trang weather forecast and rainfall along the mountain route before fixing your intercity travel date.

What if you only have three days and two nights?

With just three days, combining the two destinations only makes sense if your arrival and departure times are particularly convenient and you are comfortable with a short stay in each city. For example, you could arrive in Nha Trang on the first morning, travel to Da Lat on the second day and fly home from Lien Khuong on the third. This can work when transport runs smoothly, but the schedule is tight.

If your return flight also departs from Cam Ranh, you need to account for another journey back down to the coast. Do not force both destinations into the itinerary simply to tick them off a list. For a genuinely relaxing trip, spend all three days in one city.

When is the best time to travel between Da Lat and Nha Trang?

The most convenient days for crossing Khanh Le Pass are generally those with dry weather, good visibility and no warnings for heavy rainfall.

Da Lat and Nha Trang have different climates. Nha Trang may be warm and sunny while Da Lat is much cooler, with mist or rain at higher elevations.

October through December deserves particular attention because Khanh Hoa can experience substantial rainfall during this period. Heavy rain is especially relevant along National Highway 27C, where road damage is still being repaired.

There is no need to cancel an entire holiday simply because scattered showers are forecast. However, official warnings for very heavy rain, landslides, closures or traffic restrictions should be taken seriously when deciding which day to travel between the cities.

What to check before your departure

Confirm your exact boarding point

Make sure you understand the difference between the hotel pickup time, a shuttle transfer time and the actual departure time of the main bus. A ticket that asks you to arrive 30 minutes before departure means exactly that, and travelers with large luggage or children should allow extra time on top.

Choose a vehicle that fits your luggage

A solo traveler carrying a small backpack has more flexibility than a group of four with several large suitcases.

Do not book four seats in a compact limousine minibus and only afterward ask whether its luggage compartment is big enough. Smaller vehicles often have limited baggage space, so confirm capacity before paying.

Allow extra time before a flight

Going from Da Lat to Nha Trang and then on to Cam Ranh Airport means three separate stages: the intercity journey, the transfer from your bus drop-off location to the airport, and airline check-in and security procedures. Do not schedule your arrival in Nha Trang close to your flight's check-in deadline.

Save your operator's contact details

Before boarding, keep your operator's phone number, ticket details and hotel address available on your phone. Foreign visitors may find it helpful to save their destination in Vietnamese to show the driver.

In Nha Trang, hotels around Tran Phu and Nguyen Thien Thuat may be within convenient reach of certain transport offices. In Da Lat, a hotel near Xuan Huong Lake and accommodation farther from the center may involve very different travel costs from the bus drop-off point. Check the final part of the journey rather than assuming all central-area transfers are equally convenient.

Which transport option is best for your trip?

Travel situationRecommended optionReason
Solo traveler on a budgetStandard bus or shared limousinePay per passenger rather than renting a whole car
Couple on holidayLimousine seated serviceSeveral departure and pickup options
Family with young childrenPrivate carBetter control over luggage, child restraints and breaks
Group of 4-6Compare 7-16-seat private vehiclesMay be cost-effective when all expenses are included
Landing at Cam Ranh and heading to Da LatDirect airport transferAvoids an unnecessary detour into Nha Trang
Evening arrival at Cam RanhOvernight stay or a permitted alternative routeAvoids relying on nighttime passage through Khanh Le
Traveler prone to motion sicknessSuitable seat near the front or middleMay reduce discomfort from vehicle movement
Experienced rider wanting independencePrivate car or legally operated motorbikeFlexible journey, subject to road conditions

For this route, choosing a sensible departure time and convenient pickup point matters more than booking the most expensive vehicle. The right service is one that gets you to your actual destination, has a clear plan for mountain road restrictions and does not force you into a tight airport connection.

Da Lat and Nha Trang are only about 135 km apart, but conditions on Khanh Le Pass have a major influence on travel time. The sensible choice is to travel during daylight, check the latest road announcements and keep some flexibility in your itinerary before moving on to your next destination.
